Accessibility
“Good music. Good rum. Good access.”
Accessibility Policy
This Accessibility Policy applies to events promoted by Rum and Reggae Chester Ltd.
We want our events to be accessible and welcoming to disabled guests and will make reasonable adjustments where required.
Because our events take place at different venues, facilities and access arrangements will vary. Please also check the relevant event page and FAQ for venue-specific accessibility information.
Reasonable Adjustments
If you have an accessibility requirement, please contact us as early as reasonably possible.
Depending on your needs and the event, reasonable adjustments may include:
-
Wheelchair or accessible seating
-
Step-free access arrangements
-
Assistance with entry or queuing
-
Alternative seating arrangements
-
Essential Companion / Personal Assistant tickets
-
Assistance dog arrangements
-
Access relating to mobility, sensory or other disability-related needs
-
Permission to bring necessary medication, food, drink or medical equipment
-
Other reasonable adjustments
We do not charge disabled guests for reasonable adjustments.
Where facilities depend on the particular venue, we will work with the venue where reasonably necessary to identify an appropriate arrangement.
Essential Companion / Personal Assistant Tickets
Where a disabled guest would otherwise be placed at a substantial disadvantage without the support of another person, we may provide a complimentary Essential Companion / Personal Assistant ticket as a reasonable adjustment.
Where possible:
-
Purchase the ticket for the person requiring support.
-
Contact us with the booking or order number.
-
Briefly explain the disability-related support the companion will provide.
-
Where reasonably requested, provide suitable supporting evidence.
Supporting Evidence
We may request reasonable evidence where this is necessary to establish an Essential Companion requirement.
Examples may include:
-
An Access Card displaying a +1 or equivalent companion requirement
-
PIP, DLA or Adult Disability Payment documentation where it demonstrates a relevant support need
-
Registration as blind or severely sight impaired
-
Appropriate confirmation from a healthcare or other relevant professional
-
Other reasonable evidence demonstrating the need for substantial assistance
This list is not exhaustive.
If you do not have one of the documents listed above, please contact us and we will consider other appropriate evidence.
We do not normally require detailed medical records or a full explanation of your diagnosis.
Please do not send more health or medical information than is reasonably necessary.
Complimentary companion tickets do not automatically include paid upgrades, drinks, parking, merchandise or other optional extras.
Parents and Guardians
Being the parent or guardian of a disabled child or young person does not automatically create an entitlement to a complimentary Essential Companion ticket.
We will consider whether the support required is substantially beyond the ordinary supervision or assistance reasonably expected from a parent or guardian.
Any event-specific age and supervision rules will still apply.
Essential Companion Responsibilities
An Essential Companion should be capable of providing the support for which their ticket has been issued.
They must comply with the relevant event’s age requirements and all applicable event rules.
During an emergency they should provide the disability-related assistance they normally provide, where safe to do so. This does not remove or reduce the safety responsibilities of the organiser, venue, stewards or emergency personnel.
Wheelchairs & Mobility Aids
Wheelchairs, mobility scooters, rollators and other necessary mobility aids are welcome.
Available wheelchair positions, accessible seating and routes vary between venues.
Please check the event-specific access information and contact us if you require a particular arrangement.
Mobility and medical equipment may be subject to reasonable and proportionate security checks.
Queuing & Entry Assistance
If a disability or health condition makes standing or queuing difficult, please contact us in advance where possible.
You can also speak to a member of the event team when you arrive.
We will make reasonable efforts to minimise unnecessary waiting and provide an appropriate alternative arrangement where this is reasonably possible.
Assistance Dogs
Assistance dogs are welcome at Rum & Reggae events. Please contact us in advance to register them.
We do not require an assistance dog to be registered with a particular organisation, wear a particular jacket or harness, or have a specific assistance-dog identification card as a condition of access.
We may ask reasonable questions where necessary to understand an access requirement or make suitable arrangements.
Please contact us in advance if there is anything in particular we should be aware of, although advance notification is not normally a condition of bringing an assistance dog.
Medication, Food & Medical Equipment
Necessary medication and medical equipment are permitted.
Reasonable exceptions to restrictions on food, drink or other items will be made where something is genuinely required because of disability, a medical condition or another accessibility need.
Please contact us beforehand where possible if you are carrying an item which might otherwise be restricted so that we can help make entry straightforward.
Sensory and Other Accessibility Requirements
We recognise that accessibility requirements are not limited to mobility.
If you have a sensory, communication, neurodivergence or other disability-related requirement, please contact us and we will consider what reasonable adjustment can be made.
Late Requests
We encourage accessibility requests to be made as early as possible.
We do not operate a blanket deadline after which requests are automatically refused.
Requests made close to an event will still be considered, although the arrangements that can reasonably be made may depend on the venue, available capacity and the time available.
